Transforming Biogas into High-Quality RNG and Sustainable CO2 Solutions

ETI Overcomes Biogas Fuel Challenges

Utilizing biogas as a fuel supply presents significant challenges due to its low-quality nature. Biogas requires specialized and expensive equipment for combustion, often making it an uneconomical option as a renewable fuel supply. Additionally, when biogas methane is purified into RNG, the separated CO2 by-product is typically thermally oxidized on site, resulting in wasted resources. However, ETI’s systems overcome these issues by providing simpler more economical approach that adds value by also offering the integration of CO2 beneficial uses to the end users operations – see more below.

NOTE: General illustration shown above. ETI’s unique patented features may vary from this illustration depending on the installation.

Biogas Purification – How does this process work?

The water wash biogas separation process is a well-established technology that has been the most common way to purify biogas into RNG worldwide.

This water wash – gas separation process operates on the principle that methane (CH4) has very low solubility in water, while CO2 is highly soluble. In this process, pressurized biogas and water mix in a vessel and the methane that is not soluble rises and exits the top. The CO2 is absorbed into the water and exits out the bottom of the vessel as supersaturated carbonated (CO2) water. ETI has taken this well-proven process and re-engineered it into our innovative patented biogas purification-CO2 process systems.

ETI’s Advantages

Cost Savings

ETI’s systems can provide simpler systems with 30% or more cost savings, making biogas a more economical and attractive RNG fuel option for on-site uses or pipeline injection.

System Implementation

Besides providing comprehensive solutions, ETI offers partnering and process licensing opportunities, enabling other companies to leverage our innovative process solutions.

Carbon Capture and Turning Underutilized Biogas CO2 into Sustainable Solutions

Our unique patented process utilizes the separated biogas CO2 by-product, which is typically wasted. ETI’s CO2-pH control process can aid in multiple applications in wastewater treatment, potentially saving operations a five to six-figure annual dollar value while reducing carbon emissions, making their operations more resilient and sustainable.

ETI’s CO2 patented process offers several synergistic benefits:

1

Biogas CO2 Utilization

Instead of wasting the CO2 by-product through thermal oxidation, our systems can capture this carbon for beneficial process applications in wastewater treatment.
2

Enhanced Wastewater Treatment

Our biogas CO2-pH control process can; adjust pH levels, improve chlorine disinfection, aid in phosphorus removal, reduce polymer/chemical use, prevent struvite deposits, solids separation and improve other water treatment processes.
3

Environmental Impact

By utilizing the CO2 by-product, we can help biogas-producing facilities reduce their carbon emissions. This unique process offers multiple benefits to wastewater treatment, enhancing the value, resiliency, and sustainability of their operations.

  • Additional Uses: other applications can improve wastewater effluent lowering costs.

Illustrating the power of ETI’s solutions

ETI’s CO2 beneficial use process is 1,000 times more efficient on a volumetric basis than typical carbon air capture systems. This efficiency is achieved because ETI captures a concentrated flow of CO2 directly from the biogas source, in contrast to the relatively dilute CO2 found in the atmosphere. As a result, ETI’s system is significantly more effective, offering a highly desirable approach not only for capturing CO2 but also for utilizing it in beneficial ways.
